Important Foods To Eat For Healthier Teeth

Especially in relation to the oral hygiene of our family, the foods that we eat have a great impact on the health of our teeth. That is why dentists like Dr. Jonathan Hartley, are advocating the proper choose of food to help keep our teeth and gums in perfect condition.

When we were still small kids, we were specifically warned by our adults to stay away from eating too much sweets. From candies to cookies, from sodas to shakes, anything that is sweet we were told to be very bad to our teeth. It’s also a funny thing that sweet rhymes perfectly with teeth, but that’s a completely different matter.

Keeping our teeth in great condition should be our priority and it is fairly easy to do. Regular teeth brushing is what all dentists recommend. Often a twice a day brushing is fine, however for the best results, you should brush after each meal. This is to keep all the remaining small pieces of food from staying longer in our mouths and in between our teeth.

But there is more to good oral hygiene that merely brushing. Flossing is one thing that we all most know how to do and learn to do it on a regular basis. However the truth of the matter is that flossing is something that we are not very happy to perform. We find it extremely boring. But if what you want is cleaner teeth, then we should start flossing right away.

We should also be eating only healthy foods and drinking healthy drinks. And stay away from too much sugar as often as possible. Dentists like Dr. Jonathan Hartley believes that there are certain types of foods that are good for our teeth.

The following are some of the foods that we should be eating:

Raw vegetables, cheese, plain yogurt, nuts, and chicken.

Take in as much foods as you can that are rich in calcium. There is a good reason why calcium can often be found in our toothpaste.

The drinks that are good for our teeth are:

Fluoridated water, milk, and unsweetened tea. Drinking milk just when you are about to sleep is not advisable. However if you do want to drink a warm glass of milk just before bedtime, just remember to brush afterward.

It is quite obvious in this list of drinks is the absence of sugar. Maybe not complete lack of sugar, but at least lessen your sugar intake. Sugar is known to speed up the process of teeth decay and it is a favorite food of bacteria. So if you eat lots of sugary foods and you fail to brush regularly, expect to have ugly teeth and a bad breath.

Most dentists, especially Dr. Jonathan Hartley, advocate the suggestions listed above. They believe that brushing, flossing and eating healthy foods are the key to healthy teeth.
