Eat Like A European

Every country has people with weight problems. There is no country in the world that does not have its’ share of people who have weight issues. This is true in the United States as well. The problem of obesity is multiplied here because of the way that many of us lead our lives. The most common excuse that we use is that our schedule is so full that we can’t make the right choices. When it comes to dining we go for the convenience of fast food despite the fact that we know it is terrible for this. Just like what we eat, when we figure out that we have a weight problem, we attempt to solve it by purchasing some program that promises to show us how to lose weight fast, without ever doing any work to lose it.

It could be a good thing if we look at the way that they dine in Europe. If we followed some of the things that they do in Europe, we might eliminate the need to do our six pack ab exercises, that we have committed ourselves to doing every night in the interest of a healthy body. In Europe you will often see trim locals ordering cheese plates, steaks with rich sauces, breads, pastas, wine. Europoens eat foods that we consider to be unhealthy and make sure that we steer clear of. But this is all that you will see them eat most of the time. Their meals consist of a modestly sized entree, or even a smaller first course plate. A meal might consist of a cheese plate along with a glass of sparkling water. Dining like the Europeans is not as expensive as it is when we dine out in America.
European meals involve an investment in time to be enjoyed. The portions were reasonable, but not tiny. Europeans realize that food is first enjoyed with the eyes and take great care in the way that their food looks. Eating is a vital part of their daily schedule and they don’t skimp on how long it takes to properly enjoy it. It is not uncommon for people to close their place of business for several hours during lunch time so that it can be enjoyed. Wine was often sipped with lunch, but usually just one glass. They display the epitome of moderation.
Walking is the primary mode of transportation. The streets are not cluttered with cars trying to pull into a convenience store parking lot for a quick bite. And with the exception of gelato, I really didn’t see much snacking between meals. We have become accustomed to a diet of fast food and easy snacks that leads to our bulging waists.
When a person starts to investigate ways to diet they can look at websites such as biggest loser forum, and they will see all types of advise that seems to mimic what the Europeans already seem to know, that eating is a pleasurable and social atmosphere and should be done in moderation and enjoyed. Instead of trying to hurry up to get lunch, take it easy and make it a fun part of the day so they you can reap the benefits. Instead of taking a longer lunch because you have a bigger plate of food, take the time to enjoy the food with all of your senses. Dining everyday is not just a necessity, it is a time that should be enjoyed.
A healthy diet has many benefits. But the benefits are not always obvious right away. Skipping a fast food run and eating a nutritious meal at home will not make you lose ten pounds overnight. Choosing to eat an apple a day might not keep the doctor away but it can certainly help. Eating healthy is one way to keep your body working as it is supposed to and allows you to avoid breakdowns in the future.
