Eat Like A European

You will find someone who is overweight just about everywhere. It doesn’t matter where you live, there is someone who is affected by obesity. America is no exception to this. Because of the lifestyle that we lead, it is a major problem in our country. We tend to take the easy way because we don’t seem to have enough time. Because of the time crunch that we place ourselves under we make choices for meals that tend to make the problem even worse. Just like what we eat, when we figure out that we have a weight problem, we attempt to solve it by purchasing some program that promises to show us how to lose weight fast, without ever doing any work to lose it.

One solution for this can be found if we look across the ocean and see how they dine. If we followed some of the things that they do in Europe, we might eliminate the need to do our six pack ab exercises, that we have committed ourselves to doing every night in the interest of a healthy body. Countries like France are full of people who can be seen sitting outside of a café’ dining on things that would seem unhealthy to us. In America we seem to be obsessed with low fat meals and drinks that are sugar free. You will also notice that this was often all they would have. Instead of gorging on super sized plates, they eat a reasonable amount of food. They might enjoy a salad or a shared appetizer, along with wine. These are also a fraction of the price of a soft drink.
Meals were slow and leisurely, almost never hurried. Unlike in America, they do not super size their meals but instead give a adequate amount. There is a tremendous amount of attention to the appearance of food and the visual appeal of the food is given great significance. Europeans also seemed to take their time with lunch. A noontime siesta that involves eating and relaxing is a normal occurrence in Europe. Many people enjoy wine during their meal but they sip it slowly and make it last. The wine is meant to taken in slowly and not overdone.
Another difference in Europe is how they travel around town, on foot. There are not fast food places that offer quick food all around town. And with the exception of gelato, I really didn’t see much snacking between meals. We have become accustomed to a diet of fast food and easy snacks that leads to our bulging waists.
When a person starts to investigate ways to diet they can look at websites such as biggest loser forum, and they will see all types of advise that seems to mimic what the Europeans already seem to know, that eating is a pleasurable and social atmosphere and should be done in moderation and enjoyed. Instead of trying to hurry up to get lunch, take it easy and make it a fun part of the day so they you can reap the benefits. Instead of taking a longer lunch because you have a bigger plate of food, take the time to enjoy the food with all of your senses. It should be a part of your life.
A healthy diet has many benefits. But the benefits are not always obvious right away. Making the right choices about eating and not picking up a candy bar to snack on will eventually help your body feel better, but it is not going to occur immediately. You might not also get the results you expect by eating more vegetables and less fat food. By changing the way that you eat, you can develop a body that you will be proud to put on display and be able to maintain it for a long time.
